Wellness Bloggers. Wellness coaches. Personal journeys about wellness. Instagram feeds are BLOWING up with this buzzword and our thumbs can’t keep up. Type #wellness into your search feed and you get everything from juice cleanse ads to meditation stances. Where do we begin to understand what wellness even means?

So let’s break it down. Literally.

By definition, wellness means, having “good” health while pursuing a goal. That’s about as bland and ambiguous as it gets. What does “good” health even mean? Unfortunately we can’t answer that scientifically or with 100% accuracy - but we can give you our opinion on it (since you’re already here!).

The Habyt’s View: wellness is a lifestyle. Therefore, we feel that wellness is a verb, not a noun. It’s not just a “thing” that happens without effort.  Wellness, by our definition, encompasses striving for a life that fulfills your mental and physical being at your desired level. We’re in total agreement with part of the Dictionary version, in that it is actively pursued.

We believe, the level of your wellness should be entirely defined by you. That’s where we think the industry misses the boat. What meets expectations for one woman may not work for you - and that’s perfectly okay.

Coach Paige: “My view of wellness has been shifting my entire adult life. It has taken me several yellow brick roads to find my Oz. What I thought was “healthy” for me at 22 is drastically different from what it means today. Knowing that the path is ever changing leaves me open and eager to trying new things. What I do know is that tracking macros was the founding principle that catapulted me into my current state of well being. They’re my ruby slippers (minus my feet hurting). Tracking gives me a constant in my day and freedom in my decisions - the chain reaction of my mental and physical health.

From one wellness student to another, I encourage you to explore what a life of fulfillment and happiness looks like to you. Take a scroll through that #wellness discover page. Get new ideas, ask questions, experiment, and ultimately make a plan to incorporate those stimulators in your life. Make it a way of life, not just a trendy hashtag. “
