Meet Coach Carly!!
Hey there, I'm Coach Carly!
Heyyy! I’m Coach Carly! I’m 30 years old, a wife, a mom, a CrossFit Coach, and of course a macro coach. Each of those roles requires a lot of responsibility in helping others, and I’m passionate about each and every one of them ♥️
I was born and raised in a small town in Florida and while I was a cheerleader and played softball most of those years, nutrition was something I rarely thought about. My mom cooked and usually made sure we had a source of protein with each meal, but beyond that I ate what I wanted and was naturally thin with an athletic build.
I graduated high school in 2011 and enlisted in the Coast Guard shortly after, for what would end up being 8 years spent in active duty and 2 years in the reserves. While it was required of me to pass a physical fitness test every 6 months I rarely did much else for my physical health and wellness. In 2013 I met Joey, who would become my husband 6 years later. We developed a relationship and he influenced me to get back into taking care of myself through working out and tracking my macros. He actually wrote me my very first macro-based meal plan in 2014!
I found it fun to build muscle and strength in the gym and when a bodybuilding coach offered to coach me to compete in bodybuilding in the bikini category I dove head first and committed 100% to prepping for the stage. However, stage prep meant restricting all kinds of foods, rarely eating out, zero alcohol, and zero balance in life. I secluded myself in prep and then went off the rails each off season with the mindset of “I’m bulking, I can eat whatever I want.” One time I seriously ate an entire package of peanut butter oreos (dipping them in peanut butter) to myself in one day. And while I won my Pro Card in the American Natural Bodybuilding Federation (ANBF) and qualified nationally in the National Physique Committee (NPC) I was not healthy, or completely happy. I found myself with wildly unhealthy eating habits, a very skewed body image, and I always wanted to be as lean as I was on stage and trust me, being that lean is not healthy or sustainable for ANYONE.
After my active duty orders from the Coast Guard sent me to North Carolina for four years, I was able to get orders to California to finish out my active duty enlistment and transfer to the reserves. Joey and I were finally able to rekindle what we once had and yet again, he saw in me what I couldn’t and encouraged me to join a CrossFit gym, which quickly evolved to me getting my CrossFit Level 1 and then level 2 trainer certifications. I was focusing more on health and what my body was physically capable of doing and fueling it properly. Before long I could feel my confidence in myself coming back, it no longer mattered as much how lean I was or if I had abs. I slowly stopped worrying so much about what others thought of my body.
I’m now a wife to a fireman and a stay at mom of a wild 2 year old little boy. We just bought our forever home, and we are wanting to grow our little family in the near future. Life is hectic but we always make time for fitness and prioritize our health.
My top two things I want my clients to gain or learn while working with me:
1. Confidence takes time to build, it’s not always permanent, but it’s easier when we learn to stop worrying about what others are thinking or doing.
2. Life is busy but I want to show women that anyone can achieve their health goals when you MAKE time for yourself and your health!
I coach with a straight forward, “call it like it is” approach; I’ll point out where you need to make changes to reach your goals, but I will always celebrate your wins along the way too!
