Grocery Store Hacks | take back your Sunday!
I’ve been finding my grocery store runs and meal prep days to be expensive and pretty damn time consuming. With a few quick alterations, I made meal prep Sunday cheaper and way more efficient. Here’s what I did, take what you vibe with!
HAVE A PLAN.
Instead of walking into your local grocer overwhelmed with choices, take some time to plan before you leave the house. I promise it will save you time not only in the grocery store, but in your kitchen. Open up that Pinterest food board, your favorite Instagram macro-foodie-babe recipes (hi, @LillieLovesMacros we love you) or your Habyt cookbook (member perks!) and pick 2-3 meals you want to make that week.
CREATE A LIST .
What’s missing from your pantry or fridge? Jot it down and only buy what you need, especially if you’re low on space (we see you, NYC studio apartment ladies). If you stick to the list, you won’t forget a key ingredient and avoid overspending/ letting things go to waste!
MAKE IT SIMPLE .
Your meal prep doesn’t need to be a 5 star dining experience. There is no shame in shopping for convenience. Picking apart a rotisserie chicken for the week is just as good as roasting it yourself. Or utilize those CrockPots & InstaPots to maximize on time and tender protein!
BUY WHAT YOU ENJOY.
Pick recipes and ingredients that you love, not just “superfoods” because you heard it was healthy on a podcast. Sure, chicken and steamed broccoli have its place (but not all day everyday!) Have fun with trying new things. Thanks to chickpea pasta, mac and cheese has never been so macro friendly (and if you want to, cram the damn chicken and broccoli in there!)
KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PERIMETER.
A modern day grocery store typically will have its whole foods on the perimeter of the store. Fill your cart with a gorgeous array of colors in fresh fruit and veggies and a generous supply of protein. Then head to the aisles for the essentials! Trigger foods can live in these lanes so stick to that list and don’t go shopping hungry - you can thank us later.
STOCK UP.
Shopping in bulk can save you time and money. Don’t be afraid of grabbing discounted family packs then freezing some of that protein for another week. Likewise, frozen veggies are a life/money/time saver. Stock up your freezer and never go hungry
Happy shopping!
