How to Log Foods + Meals
With the MacrosFirst food logger you can quickly select multiple items to add to your meal. You can also also review the impact of the selected foods on your daily goal and view the foods' complete nutrition information before logging them to your day.
From the daily log:
Tap the + button next to the meal that you're adding to
Search by item name or barcode. On the All tab, which searches across all foods, meals, and recipes, results will be organized into three categories:
Recent contains your 100 most recently logged foods, meals, and recipes. By default only 5 items are displayed and you can reveal more by tapping "Show more results." If no recent items match your query this section will be hidden in your search results.
Saved are your custom saved foods, meals, and recipes that match your query. If no saved items match your query this section will be hidden in your search results.
All Foods are the foods from our 100% human verified food database that match your query.
Select the items you wish to log by taping the + button next to each food or by tapping on the name of the food to view its nutrition details and adjust its serving size prior to selecting it.
On the food search page, tap the checkmark in the top right corner to log your selected foods or tap the green button at the bottom of the page to review your selected foods before logging them to your meal.
How-to Create a Recipe
From the Food Search page:
Tap the
+
button in the top right cornerTap "Create Recipe"
Enter the Recipe name
Enter the number of servings
Add your ingredients
Fun fact: Ingredients can be automatically portioned according to your nutrition goal for that food, just like foods logged to a meal. For example, if you wanted your recipe to contain 100 g of protein from chicken breast, then add chicken breast as an ingredient, enter 100 in the protein field, and observe the ingredient quantity update to provide 100 g of protein. ✨
To delete an ingredient from the recipe, swipe it to the left.
Enter the total weight of the whole recipe after cooking (optional but awesome)
This setting gives you an additional serving size option to use when portioning your recipe to eat it. For example, if you cooked a soup yielding 5 servings, then when it comes time eat the soup you'd have to eyeball portioning out 1/5 of it each time you eat it which is imprecise and impractical. However, if this same soup weighed 1,500 g after cooking and you entered that in MacrosFirst, then you could portion the soup by grams in addition to servings when logging it.
Add preparation instructions by tapping the
+
button next to Preparation.Tap the done checkmark in the top right corner to create your recipe.
Adjusting a Food's Serving Size
From the search results, tap the name of the item that you wish to log
Adjust the item's serving size as necessary. You can also auto-calculate the item's serving size by tapping into any of the nutrient's and typing a new value.
Tap the number in Servings to enter a new quantity of servings
Tap Serving Size to open the serving size selector and choose a new serving size
If you notice that a food's nutrition data is incorrect, then you can create a copy of the food by the tapping the ... button in the upper right corner and make your edits.
Tap the checkmark in the top right corner of the Add Food screen select this food to add to your meal.
This will return you to the food search page where you can search for your next item or, if you're done, tap the checkmark in the top right corner to log the selected food(s) to your meal.
How-to Quick Track
If you know how many calories (or other nutrients) you ate, then you can use Quick Track to quickly add those calories to your daily log without searching for foods or by creating a new Custom Food. This is a helpful feature when eating at a restaurant.
To log a Quick Track entry:
On your daily log, tap the + button next to the meal you're adding to
On the food search page, tap the + button in the top right corner
Tap "Quick Track"
Enter your nutrients
Tap the checkmark in the top right corner when done
Just like when creating a custom food, if you leave the calories field blank then it will be auto-calculated according to the macros you set. You can also leave the Name field blank. When the name field is left blank the item will take the name "Quick Track @ 11:09 AM" on your log where the time is dynamically set to the time when you logged the item.
