Coach Paige's Motivation Tips
As winter creeps in and the days get shorter.. I find the hardest part of my workout is showing up. Here in Minnesota it’s sometimes too unbearable to leave the house in negative degree temps!
But I know how good it feels to finish a workout, even if it’s in the calendar and even if I’m already dressed for it. The struggle is real.
So when it’s dark at 4pm and the urge to stay on the sofa is coming on strong… hit up one of these 5 quick tips to get yourself motivated. I came up with them myself.. out of pure necessity.
Leave yourself reminders
The power of words can’t be overstated – the things you tell yourself over and over again are what you believe! Write powerful, motivating phrases on sticky notes and leave them on your mirror, journal, gym bag… wherever you’ll see them on the regular. The constant visual reminders of your goals, or phrases like “I am committed” and “I am motivated to achieve my best self!” will reprogram your subconscious over time, making it easier to overcome resistance to your healthy habits.
Find a workout buddy
It probably comes as no surprise that when we enroll an accountability partner into the mix, we’re way more likely to stick with our commitments. See if you can schedule workouts a few times per week with a friend - OR book classes in advance – that way, it’s a meeting in your calendar that you won’t miss (or you might be losing $$ and who wants that?!).
Incorporate variety
If you’re just in pilot mode on the elliptical and weight machines with the same old gym routine every day, I get it.. Boring! Humans are programmed to crave variety, so use this to your advantage and explore new types of workouts and classes that stimulate your body and mind. Cycling classes, Crossfit, group aerobics and dance or yoga are great ways to change things up. Better yet, mix in some outdoor hiking, climbing, and swimming days – you’ll be having too much fun to realize you’re working out.
