Weekend Success Guide: Staying on Track With Your Goals

Weekend Success Guide: Staying on Track With Your Goals

The weekends can tend to cause anxiety for some of us because there may be more events going on, or we are just out of our “normal” routine.

Here are some of my tips to enjoy the weekend, yet stay mindful while doing so:

Grab ‘N’ Go

1. Have easy, ready-to-go snacks on hand. Things you can easy take with you on days you will be out and about (yogurt, deli meat rollups, jerky, string cheese, cottage cheese, turkey pepperoni, protein bars/powders, nuts/seeds, fruit, veggie sticks, hummus/guacamole cups, hard boiled eggs, etc)

Be Prepared

2. Make sure you have some meals prepared for meals that you will not be eating out! Just because we are going out to dinner doesn't mean breakfast, lunch, and snacks for the rest of the day don't matter! Utilize the easily put together options such as: tuna, sandwiches, rotisserie chicken, pasta, frozen/pre-cut veggies, frozen meat/fish, burger patties, ready rice, etc.

It’s not alway a celebration

3. Know that not every single meal out/time you leave your house has to be treated as a special occasion. Just because we are going out to lunch with a friend doesn't mean we HAVE to indulge in things that may not make us feel good.

Make a plan

4. If you have multiple events in one weekend, choose which ones you want to indulge at/what you want to indulge with. Maybe you choose to have a couple of drinks at one, maybe you choose to enjoy the dessert and skip the drinks at another, maybe you choose to have the apps and bread basket and skip the drinks and dessert at another. It's all about deciding what is important and worth it to you and what simply is not.

Focus on memories > Food

5. Enjoy your time and stay present with your friends and family. Life is about way more than counting and numbers. Know that if you are eating one meal out, it is not going to derail you. The most important thing is to enjoy making the memory and get right back to your plan the next day. It's always about consistency, never about perfection!

BONUS TIP

When you know you are going out to dinner or have an event, fill your day with lots of protein/fiber early on. You shouldn't eliminate carbs/fats from your morning or afternoon meals, but stay conscious of them knowing that the meal out will likely be higher in these areas. When you are choosing your meal out, base it around lean protein, make sure there is a veggie somewhere on the plate, choose a carb source whether it be rice/potatoes/a bun/a wrap/a pita, and control for fats when you can. You can control fats by asking for things like dressings, sauces, and crumbled cheese on the side. That way you can add as much or as little as you want to your meal.
